tan's purpose

Amy tan’s purpose for writing this essay was to illustrate the importance’s of culture and the pride you should take in it. After looking back on tan’s experience she learned to be proud of who she is, and the love her mom had for her. I personally understand tan’s purpose because I’ve had a similar experience.

It was a hot September day in Miami, Florida my family and I just move to the city, and I was bored. I had decided to go outside to get some air, but to my surprise there were a bunch of kids   on the porch next door. I thought were going to be cool but I was wrong. They started making fun of me call me all types of names I cried while they continued to make fun of me. All the while my mom oversaw what was happening. When all was said she came out side and sat next to me and told me not to be hurt by that people say, but be proud of whom I am. This experience is how I understand tan’s purpose for writing this essay.

  1. Hey Tony,
I feel as though you really connected with Amy being as it was such a similar event. I felt as though you could have used a bit more vivid detail explaining the situation that you went through.

  2. Hey wasup Tony,

Yea i agree with Brian, you should have explained more detail on what the kids were actually calling you to make you feel that way, cause now as a reader i want to know what the kids are calling you to make you feel bad.

  3. I think you answered the prompt and were able to make a connection with your experiences and Tan’s experiences, but I agree with Guy and Brian. There was good detail in what you wrote, just not a lot to the actual story and summary. Even though you were vague, I understood what you were trying to say. I’m sorry to hear you were being picked on; kids can be cruel to others, especially when they have their own insecurities about their selves.
